DOLLHOUSE
My senior project, DOLLHOUSE, is about childhood memories and nostalgia. My project is about recalling my childhood, moments that I find myself missing after becoming an adult, memories that bring me joy to think about today, and that brought me the same feeling as a child. The project consists of a wooden dollhouse, meant to loosely resemble the home I grew up in. The house is a display that houses a series of artist books. Each book is meant to represent my childhood memories through a physical form. Much like how scrapbooks are meant to hold memories and precious moments, these books have the same purpose. The forms of the books include; a doll box, refrigerator, old TV, car, CD player, turtle sandbox, and a Nintendo DS console. Each form is meant to represent staples from my childhood; My favorite toys (doll box), favorite snacks (refrigerator), shows and movies (TV), road trips I went on with my family (car), music that influenced me and I grow up listening to (CD player), memories from my backyard (sandbox turtle), and the games I loved playing (Nintendo DS console). The series of books are made from mixed mediums, including traditional, craft, and printing. I have experimented with form, structure, and materials for each of the books.
