studio art // @figgyyyyyyyyThree in Sides to One Fig-uer
I often find it ironic being asked to craft an artist statement when I don’t entirely feel like an artist. It makes me wonder why I chose to study it in college. I will describe my artwork as the following. My art is a light-hearted rendition of the childish but funny perspectives I have of the world. I enjoy making work that depicts the joy and happiness of my everyday life. This. specific series depicts the three sides to my personality at varying stages of my life. One painting depicts my farewell to my time in college and leaving George Mason in the past. The second painting depicts a clear and prominent view to my current life in the United States Army Officer Corps. Lastly, the third painting takes a potential view of my future further in life when I pursue an independent career in the arts world. My work centers around a happy medium between cartoonism and real-world imagery. I draw these real-world people, in a cartoon form because I enjoy seeing like through a happier and less obscured lens, this is what gives me work meaning and purpose.
