Noori's Mehndi
Noori's Mehndi is a small business that specialized in making mehndi cones. Mehndi comes from the henna plant. Its leaves are dried, grinded into a powder, then mixed with water to create a paste that stains the skin. A stain would last for a few days, but to make it last longer one could add black tea or coffee grounds to the mixture. Along with the business cards and aftercare instructions, gift boxes that were burned with a laser cutter sit on top of a crocheted placemat and a screen-printed tablecloth. Henna is not only important to multiple South Asian cultures, but to me personally. I chose to henna as the basis for my project as a way of rediscovering my roots. Growing up as the artist of the family, I was encouraged to learn how to do henna. From there my love for drawing grew into a love for painting, which then became a love for graphic design.
