Surya

For this project, I embarked on several design tasks for a fictional band named Surya. Surya, which translates to sun in Sanskrit, is a 70s inspired space rock and jazz fusion band. Their music is a blend of freeform improvisational jazz and heavy, hypnotic guitar riffs and effects, with lyrics containing mantras and themes derived from Hindu stories and religious text. The band’s design identity contains bold psychedelic typography, solar motifs, and sacred geometry. Drawing inspiration from devotional artwork, retro concert posters, and sci-fi aesthetics, Surya’s design work blends limited color palettes, mesmerizing optical patterns, and symbolic imagery to create graphics which reflect their music. I decided on this project to combine and express my love of jazz, psychedelic, and progressive rock music with my heritage and endless spiritual adventure with Hindu philosophy.
