aruzela; Fire Without Wood

Medium: Fabric, mirrors, looped video

There exists a space we can enter within our souls that is not tangible. Where we feel an invisible weight and a flowing heat. Through Karuzela, I am attempting to bring this space into reality. I am inviting viewers to place their face into the mask/eyepiece of the kaleidoscope to view a video titled; ‘Fire Without Wood’.

Drawing inspiration from the spectacle of the circus, the mysticism of the fortune telling tent, and the drama of the theater stage, I am placing the viewer into the space not as an actor or an object, but as a true and sublime subject. The question I leave you is, “what is the nature of a fire that does not consume?”
