Reframing Her: Self-portraits of women from 1500-1900

This project brings to light a few of the women artists who have shaped the arts in invisible ways. Women are often left behind in art history courses, with their impact left unnoted. I wanted to challenge this by presenting their work in the same medium that men are presented. As someone that loves museums and enters exhibits searching for the story a curator is trying to tell, I am usually left disappointed by the narrative women are written into. I chose self-portraits painted by each artist to honor them as producers, artists, and more than just objects.
