Kit Stories: Gentle Moments by Design

Medium: Digital

Interactive storytelling experience designed to offer children a calming screen-time alternatives in an overstimulated digital landscape. The project centers on the concept of "gentle moments" slowing down and engaging with stories that soothe. A space where children's screen time can be designed to soothe rather than stimulate and address the problem of overstimulation in children's digital media. It creates moments of gentle engagement where they feel agency without overstimulation. My approach was shaped by research in child development psychology, contemporary children's media trends, and my personal background growing up with watching my mother create calm moments in her daycare. Research revealed that children under the age of 6 are in a critical period for executive function development, and that overstimulating media interferes with emotional regulation and attention management. Studies showed that interactive media isn't inherently harmful—the issue is how interaction is designed. These insights converged into the project's central design principle of having calmness as a feature, not a limitation.
