This project challenges the erasure of Black presence and contribution within punk and alternative culture. Narratives around punk have long centered whiteness, distorting its origins, evolution, and continued vitality. For Black participants in these scenes, there is often a persistent myth that these spaces—and the identities within them—are not ours. This work pushes back against that notion.
Through a series of infographics, I trace the history of Black punk, hardcore, and genre-blurring movements, foregrounding the artists and influences that are frequently overlooked. Alongside this, my zine offers a personal perspective—an intimate account of navigating punk as a Black creative—centering lived experience as a form of cultural knowledge.
The listening station invites you to engage directly with the music, amplifying the voices and sounds that shape this history.
