Who Did it Better

Medium: Digital/Print

This project is meant to show off how arguments about art and animation styles can Needlessly escalate. In this project titled: “Who Did It Better?”, six characters are introduced (Mike, Rachel, a stick figure, Alex, CJ, and Carly) and get emotionally caught up in the competition of the art/animation industry and fight each other to validate which style is better. From hand drawn, to rotoscoped, to stiff rigs, and lego stop motion, these characters but heads with each other only to realize that eventually this won’t matter so much. This was all inspired by real life arguments about hand drawn animation getting sidelined too much and should make a comeback to the forefront. Or CGI should just be CGI, rotoscoped is cheating because it’s just tracing. The reality is that all these styles exist for a reason and should all be chosen based on what we prefer. All animation styles are an illusion and at the end of the day these arguments shouldn’t have to exist.
