Living Beyond Hate: Stories of the Transgender and Autistic Experience

Medium: 12” x 12” printed pop-up book made from cardstock; 11” x 17” watercolor painting on mixed-media paper

This project is aimed to educate people on the struggles and historical context of the transgender and autistic community through research and personal accounts. In 2025, these communities have been the target of prejudice that have resulted in political agendas and censorship of their history. As a person who is associated with these
communities, it is important to me to create a work that reminds us that they are just humans who have fought for their rights but continue to be unjustly victimized.

The pop-up book invites you to explore this topic through a medium that impacted me as an autistic child. The interactivity and illustrations in these pop-up books helped me process information, and I hope this book can do the same for others.
