The Color of Belonging
Medium: Print
The Color of Belonging is a visual book exploration of mixed identity, shaped by my Hawaiian, Filipino, and Black heritage. Through design, illustration, and storytelling, it examines themes of code-switching, microaggressions, and cultural duality, revealing how identity can be both questioned and celebrated. Drawing from personal experience and cultural research, each section reflects a step toward self-understanding, from inherited traditions to the everyday language of belonging. By blending personal narrative with visual symbolism, the project challenges how we define identity and invites viewers to reflect on their own.
