I was not Ren—I was Nhàn. Đỗ Chi Nhàn, a Vietnamese name filled with hope and wish for a gentle, elegant lady. However, I’ve always hated my name. Growing up, it was constantly miswritten, mispronounced, and mocked for being “weird.” Even official documents like my birth certificate show traces of it being altered or misunderstood. Feeling confused and ashamed of my name, I want to use the senior show as an opportunity to explore the meanings behind my name – to reflect on it, to understand it more deeply, and maybe even reconcile with it.
