Lamentation Labyrinth

Medium: Lasercut hardboard, clay, and found objects

I am an artist with the heart of a writer. At the core of my art practice, I create digital illustrations with emotional narratives and clever compositions. They are usually in the form of comics, but I have also experimented with the visual novel game format. My long-form projects revolve around mysteries that slowly unravel as the events play out. Each panel or scene contributes to the greater narrative of my stories.

The process of designing the reality around me is what draws me to illustration. I think about unique methods of rendering that add interest to mundane objects and scenes. My works are characterized by dynamic shapes, energetic linework, vibrant colors, and crunchy textures. As a child with no money to consistently afford painting supplies, I would spend my time trying to replicate the effects of traditional paint on digital art programs. With the skills and tools obtained from these replication attempts, my art style ended up becoming a hybrid of traditional and digital art.

Lamentation Labyrinth steps outside of my comfort zone, where I take my storytelling skills and apply them to a 3D sculpture. Like my 2D works, I place clues to the mystery in every corner I can find. Working in 3D has allowed me to be more creative with how I present my story.
